thanksgiving-thankful

Thanksgiving 2020

A1 American is thankful to have you as a customer – not just on Thanksgiving, but every day. We recently asked our customers why they are thankful. This is what they all had to say:

Thankful that my team and I are all healthy and able to continue to work during this difficult and confusing period.

Sam Patel, ABC Global Hospitality Group LLC

Working in the hotel industry, I am blessed to do what I can during this pandemic, while being safe as well. I encourage everyone else around the world to do the same.

Sarah Jolin, Best Western Hotel Laval-Montreal

I am so thankful for the freedoms available to me living in Texas.  I am thankful for the natural beauty of our environment, the positive economy, and the powerful Texas Attitude of our residents.

Kathy Rice, Ox Ranch

I am thankful that we have been able to remain open for business during these tough times, as our employees and our community depends on us.  It has required sacrifice from many points of view but being able to provide service to those who need it makes it all worthwhile.

Jenni Smith, Days Inn by Wyndham Bedford

I am thankful to have remained working through the pandemic.  I have a great staff and 1/3 of us kept the hotel open.  The remaining staff had a layoff but all of them came back to work when they were called to return. I am most thankful that my adult children have been able to stay working and that they and their families have remained healthy.

Sue Bolton, Quality Inn Ironwood

I am thankful that through this pandemic I have been able to keep all of my staff employed with only minimal cuts to hours. We were lucky enough to have to had 2 large construction projects going in our area and both companies had contracted rates and contracts in place to stay with us. Also, none of my staff’s family or friends have gotten sick.

Julie Ruud, LAC Hotel LLC dba Comfort Inn & Suites Los Alamos

Susanna Wong-Noda, Hilton Los Angeles Airport

WE ALL MUST BE THANKFUL TO PEOPLE IN OUR LIFE. I’M THANKFUL TO MY PARENTS, BECAUSE I’M ALL BECAUSE OF THEM. I’M THANKFUL TO ALMIGHTY TO GIVE ALL IMPORTANT THINGS TO STAY HEALTY AND ALIVE. FOR EXAMPLE; -AIR, WATER AND FOOD. WE SHOULD BE THANKFUL TO OUR FAMILY, FRIENDS AND SOCIETY-THEY GIVE US REASON TO ALIVE. THERE IS ALWAYS SO MUCH TO BE THANKFUL.

SATWANT SALARIA, BEST WESTERN HOTEL WILLIAMS LAKE BC

Why? Because being THANKFUL keeps me from being ungrateful and helps me focus on others, not myself.  If I think first about my family, friends and then co-workers, I have less time to think about “me!” If I’m able to do something for them, it lightens their load and mine too creating a positive atmosphere whenever possible both at home and at work. I am thankful that I get to live in America and have the family I have both near and far.  I’m thankful for my friends, my neighborhood, my hometown, my job, the places I get to shop and for the area I get to live in here along the St. Lawrence River, NYS.  I’m thankful for the life I have been able to live with all its blessings and even with its ups and down; those trying times have blessed me with a better perspective on life and understanding for what other might go through. Those trying experiences have become “character makers” not “character takers.”  Every moment is a blessing!  Thank YOU for allowing me to share these thoughts!

Nina, 1000 Islands Harbor Hotel

This has been the most challenging of times this past year and we all tend to get so wrapped up in the negativity.  We have Covid, riots, elections, and just the overwhelming challenges of everyday life because of all that is around us.  I have to remind myself daily that I am thankful for my life, I am grateful to simply be alive, and healthy.  Most of all I am thankful for my family, who is always there for me, my grandchildren who are happy, healthy, and just naive enough not to notice the chaotic world around them.  I am thankful for those moments when I am with these innocent children, that I too can put all that negativity out of my mind and just enjoy the time together.  I am thankful that I live in the USA and that we have freedoms not afforded to so many others.  I am thankful for mankind, how we all can come together when there are others in need.  Finally, I am thankful for hope, despite the challenges of the here and now I have hope for the future and hope keeps me going.

Christy Madson, Sunquest Hospitality

As we, the team, together rallied to be healthy happy and looking out for each other amidst this crazy time! We believed in caring for each other and being honest to each other. I am happy we were able to keep our business open so we could serve the essential servers and help us pay our bills. I am happy that I was not a burden to the economy and am able to help others! I am happy because of this amazing country and its fighting spirit, the flag that it stands for and the freedom that we have due to the brave. I am happy that I can put value to others without being oppressed and judged!

Andy Sarma, Holiday Inn Express and Suites

I am thankful that my family is healthy and safe.  I am thankful that I still have an income and am able to pay bills and nourish my family.  I am thankful to have a wonderful marriage and great relationship with my parents, children, friends and other family.  I am thankful to have wonderful nieces and nephews who I cherish and have wonderful relationships with.  I am thankful to have the love of God even when I don’t deserve it.  Lately, I have been very thankful just to be able to walk, hear and see as so many people with disabilities would not take those things for granted as many of us do not realizing how much harder life could be.  There is probably nothing I am more thankful for than being a mom.  Best life choice ever.

Dawn Crawford, Holiday Inn Express and suites

We had a strong Summer.  Our new owner is doing well.  We have a healthy and happy staff.

Richard and Chelie Nichols Owners and Shelly Manager, THE SAGE N SAND MOTEL

I am thankful that we have been able to remain open. I am thankful that we have been able to keep all of our staff employed this year. Most of all I am thankful that my staff and my family and friends have not been sick or in any physical danger this year.

Brooke Key, Super 8 Bedford by Wyndham

We were able to serve our clients with intellectual disabilities in a safe environment.  We did not see a major outbreak of COVID 19 in our facility or homes due to the strict adherence measures undertaken to keep our residents safe. We navigated this pandemic with our employees, by providing them with PPE equipment for their families and other incentives. We communicated with our employees what we knew in an ever-changing landscape.  I believe this has brought us closer as an organization.  You really have to possess patience and empathy for people; for this to be your career and life work. This is true from the Direct Support Professional to the Chief Executive Officer, advocacy and care in a state that does not dedicate a lot of reimbursement funds for this social services program.

Sabrena R. Akentn, The Center For Pursuit

For what we have

Sanjay Patel, La Quinta Inn

Each day I am thankful for nights that turned into mornings, friends that turned into family, dreams that turned into reality and likes that turned into love. Most importantly though, I am thankful for you today and every day.

Ravindra Kumar , Baymont Inn & Suites

I’m thankful that breathing, I’m thankful for my wife and kids, I’m thankful for my parents raising me the way they raised me.

Ahmednur Wasuge, Super 8 by Wyndham Pride Midvale

In a chaotic time of war and pandemic(s), violence and tears, gratitude that has been tapped into is a blessing we deserve to give ourselves. As times are tough, it also tends to get difficult to feel thankful when circumstances feel bleak. This is largely why I am grateful- because the beauty of gratitude is that it needs no reason other than a shift in perspective to embrace and to become. I am grateful that I was blessed to be alive in a time where I may think and I may feel, a world where I may love and I may feel joy despite the simultaneous bad. I am grateful for the people that have remained as solid companions by my side and I appreciate the heart they have invested into being a part of my life. I am thankful for the disappointments that have allowed me to encounter the surreal beauties that this universe has to offer- neither of which I could have fathomed within the scopes of my own mind. Today and every day, I am thankful that I am alive.

For still having business coming in with the shutdowns, etc. and that we are considered an essential business, so we can stay open.

Dawn Schneller, Best Western Resort Hotel

My husband Wayne and I are Canadians and have lived in Canada our whole lives. However, our three daughters and their families have been living in the US for years. Due to Covid-19 we haven’t seen them or our grandkids in nearly a year. Our youngest grandson is 7 months old and we have yet to hold him in our arms. I am thankful they are safe and have remained Covid-free. I am also thankful for you Amazon. You make it possible for us to buy and ship birthday, anniversary and Christmas gifts to them.

Barbara Moreau, Kipawa Lodge Inc

I am thankful that through all of this chaotic 2020 we have been able to stay open keeping 40 of our staff members employed while staying safe and providing a friendly quality guest experience.  On this roller coaster of a ride, we put emphasis on taking care of each other, cross training to minimize the number of layoffs, and providing guests with value even though many amenities are not available right now.  I am thankful for the creativity that’s allowed us to excel in promotions like “”Get a free roll of toilet paper with every carry out order in the restaurant”” as well as offer a modified (upgraded many times) breakfast offering by listening to our guests. All staff members have pitched in and we are all rowing the boat together, determined to win the race. I am thankful for my health and the health of family, friends, and Best Western Premier Family.  I have faith we will get through this and will be better for having experienced it together.

Patty Rotermund, Best Western Premier Alton, IL

I am Thankful that with everything going on this year with the pandemic and the ups, downs and uncertainties. That with works hours being less than normal throughout the year. I have still been able to provide for my family. I am also very blessed (knock on wood) that no one dear to me has come down with COVID. Overall and like every year. I am thankful for what I hold nearest my heart, My Family:)

Kimberlee Carter, Best Western Plus Greenwell

I am thankful for the support of my family that in turn helps me support the property.  I have been working about 10 a day, almost every day since March and it is the additional support that I get from my family who help me continue what needs to be done in this troubling and unsettling times.

Tricia Green, Holiday Inn Express Rock Springs

I am thankful for my coworkers and the supportiveness we have here. We don’t always get along for all the day to day running of things, but at the end of it we all realize that we are as good as family and when something happens everyone has your back.

Cathy Walker, Pioneer Villa Travelodge

I am thankful for having a roof over my head, food on the table and a job during this pandemic. I recently came across a family of 5 staying at one of our hotels. The parents had 3 children, all under 5 years old. The youngest being under a year old. I noticed that they had their belongings in plastic bags and though, they were very well-mannered and polite, it was clear to see that they were homeless. Due to covid-19, both parents lost their jobs, car and house and were spending their last pennies on hotel rooms to keep their kids off the street. It was heartbreaking to see such sweet innocent kids with nothing more than the clothes on their back. I reached out to them and provided whatever assistance I could financially so that they have their essential needs- especially with winter starting now. I am in the process of trying to collect toys, food and clothes from my relatives so these kids have a wonderful, normal Christmas. Above all, I am Thankful to have the means to help others!

Salma D., Merchant Hospitality Group – Multiple properties

I am thankful that I still have a job, unlike so many unemployed people.  I am thankful that we could keep 90% of our employees working, so that they can provide for their families.  I am thankful that not one of our employees have had Covid-19, it’s truly a blessing.  I am thankful that we were able to purchase PPE products from A1 to keep employees and guest safe during these trying times. I am thankful that our guest trust us to keep them safe, without our guest we wouldn’t be able to keep our doors open.  I am thankful for the Paycheck Protection funds that we received to get us through the difficult times when no one was traveling.  We took that time to do renovations on all of our guest rooms so that employees were able to get full paychecks.  There are so many things to be thankful for, I’m sure that I could go on and on.  So many people have lost their lives due to this pandemic, which gives us all a reason to be thankful that we’re still here. We are truly blessed!

Tammy Lowry-Gault, Holiday Inn Express – Aberdeen, Maryland

I am thankful for sustaining my job at this time of COVID19 where many of us lost their jobs. Also, I am thankful for having good health with my kids and family. Thank you so much!

Sid Noonari, Butterfly Grove Inn

I am thankful for the life I share with my family, friends and co-workers. We enjoy all the little things in life, we share with one another and that makes me a happier person. With the COVID virus so much is changing for the world and the people around me but I try my best to handle all with Peace. Although I am sad about the state of affairs that the world is in, I do my best to live a good life for myself, my family and friends. We realize we are not rich in money but we have everything in each other. I have my Peace in my life and that’s all I ask for at my age.  I pray for all of my family, friends and all in the world. I hope that the state of affairs in the world show people the right way and being grateful will make any person happier.

Linda Smith, Hometown Inn & Suites Hotel

I am thankful for my dependable AGM Tonya who has supported me through very difficult times.

Sanket Jani, Awesome Hospitality LLC

Recently, I spent 6 nights in the hospital where I had surgery and am now recovering at home. While I was there the restrictions on visitors was very strict due to the current pandemic. I received several flower arrangements and spoke to the nurses about other patients. It was very lonely and I couldn’t imagine what it was like for someone who didn’t have any support system. According to several nurses there were several patients there who were all alone. I decided that I wanted to share my flowers with these people. Although I never spoke to any of them, I wanted them to know that someone cared. I am thankful for the people in my life, my family, my staff and my network. It takes the same amount of effort to express gratitude as it does indignation.

Alona Bice, J & G Hotels, LLC/ Microtel Inn & Suites Leesburg

This is usually not a hard question.  I have always been thankful of everything that has happened in my life. This year, with Covid, cancer surgery (turned out to be benign), and the sudden death of my daughter, I have had to really reflect on this question.  I’m thankful for my faith.  It has helped me endure the pain of losing a child.  I am thankful for the joy and love my daughter brought me.  Losing her has made me reflect on every year of our lives together and I am thankful for those memories.  I am thankful that I was there when she was born, and I am thankful for my memories so I may share and pass on her legacy to her boys and her grandson.  This is what I am most thankful for this season.

Chriss Wohlleber, Courtyard by Marriott, St.Cloud
